A window without a blind is like an eye without eyelids, Eileen Gray [513]

In 1926, in the height the formal revolution of the modern movement, when Le Corbusier projects the bare windows inserted in the elementary geometry of his villas Eileen Gray designs a sophisticated enclosure for Villa E.1027. Dialogue between Eileen Grey and Jean Badovici)In the forties she would add: “La pauvreté de l’architecture d’aujourd’hui résulte de l’atrophie de la sensualité” (quoted by Peter Adam in his book “Eileen Grey une biographie” Ed.

The joinery is formed by rotating and sliding panels that form a kind of transparent folding screen that can be collected at any point of the railing. The solar protection consists of three sliding louvered shutters, separated 40cm from the glass. The louvers are fixed but some fragmentations of the panels are horizontal pivoting, following the traditional way of the Mediterranean woodwork in that area.

Together with Gray Badovici, they patented the system in 1929. (From the patent, quoted in Spanish translation in Arquia/documental20 page 41)
