Perforated rust-red steel panels covering whole façade [491]

This building dedicated to student residence and high school is located in Silkeborg, Denmark. The architects wanted to focus on the idea of unitary materials. That is why they came to the minimization of the facade, reducing it to a single covering material: rust-red steel with large round perforations.

This simple solution is inadequate from the point of view of solar protection. As we can see on the inner photos, it does not allow the darkening (so necessary in bedrooms), in addition to producing glare in hours of strong sun.

It does get the unit of facade, hiding the windows when closed, and producing an interesting light effect at night, when the interior lights are on.
